After speaking to the volunteers from last year and hearing the impact they made on the Orphanage, the kids lives and their own lives it was definitely something I wanted to do. As well as fundraising amongst my friends and family, I'm also doing office events such as sweepstakes, Friday sausage baps, summer football, a quiz night and a raffle with prizes from local businesses.

I love that Capital is interested in providing so much more than just financial aid to the orphanage, and that there’s a real focus on sustainability and self-sufficiency for the community. I’m planning on hosting a quiz night  to raise money, but to kick start my fundraising I’m raffling a York Ghost Merchant ghost! So far, I’ve managed to sell more than £400 worth of tickets in 24 hours!)

I was motivated to volunteer for the trip as it is a once in a lifetime experience which not only gives me the opportunity to explore the world but also enables me to give back to the community in a meaningful way. I am walking the 2024 Parish Walk in aid of the Huruma Orphanage where I am raising money through my JustGiving page.

One of the primary reasons I decided to volunteer was to gain firsthand insight into the lives of those less fortunate. As someone in my early twenties, I’ve been fortunate to lead a relatively easy-going life. Volunteering provides me with an opportunity to truly appreciate my blessings and understand the challenges faced by others. I am currently running a tuck shop in the office as well as selling sausage baps.

Three years ago, I was fortunate enough to climb Mount Kilimanjaro. Whilst in Arusha, we spent a day with the children at the Huruma Orphanage. I was amazed by the resilience of the children and staff alike, all struggling to survive in immensely challenging circumstances. I knew immediately that supporting the Orphanage would have a tremendously positive impact on the children living there. I can’t wait to get back to Huruma this year to repeat the experience for everyone a second time.
